Application and function
The OPM 04 (Optical Particle Monitor) is an optical dust monitor that
uses advanced dynamic opacity techniques to achieve high levels of
accuracy coupled with very low maintenance requirements.
A near infra-red beam of light, sensitive to dust particles is projected
through the duct to a receiver. Rapid changes in dust particle concentration
within the duct cause short-term variations in the received opacity
signal. This modulated opacity signal is proportional to the mass
concentration of particles. To calibrate the OPM 04 requires a standard
reference method test such as EPA Method 5, EN 13284-1 or VDI 2066.
The advantage of this technology is that the signal processing system
is unaffected in long term changes in opacity caused by dust on the
lenses or mis-alignment of the sensors.
