With this enhanced thrust on Performance Monitoring & Improvement, several power plants have set up a ‘Formal Efficiency Management System’ while others are likely to follow suit.

This ‘Efficiency Management System’ involves a close monitoring & tracking of key performance indices of critical equipment. One of the crucial steps in implementing ‘Efficiency Management System’ is to set up an ‘Efficiency Test Laboratory’ capable of performing precision diagnostic tests of various equipment & systems.

On the basis of testing & subsequent analysis, time bound corrective action can be planned for minimising financial losses due to heat rate deviation. Such regular testing & monitoring helps in improved power availability & financial performance, which in turn results in savings in fuel & lower O&M cost per unit of power generated.

EFFICIENCY TESTING EQUIPMENT
1. ISOKINETIC COAL SAMPLING KIT ( DIRTY AIR PROBE ): To determine the air & fuel flow to each coal pipe, to balance distribution of each pulversizer from pipe to pipe.

The kit comes complete with calibrated dirty air probe, static & temperature probe, manometers, aspirator assembly etc., required to draw Iso-kinetic sample from fuel line.
2. HIGH VELOCITY THERMOCOUPLES (HVT) : To determine “boiler air in-leakage” & study boiler combustion pattern.

These probes are capable of measuring oxygen, carbon monoxide & temperature levels in furnace up to 20 ft. Deep. The traversing data can be plotted to determine if & where there is a problem with air in – leakage & air-fuel distribution pattern.
3. HIGH VOLUME SAMPLER KIT ( HVT ) : To extract ‘ In-situ’ fly-ash sample for boiler tuning or periodic monitoring of fly ash L.O.I (unburnt carbon level).

The kit comes complete with the sampling probe, aspirator assembly & filter papers.
4. “CEGRIT” ( AUTOMATIC FLY-ASH SAMPLER ) : For continuous sampling of gas borne dust (fly-ash) in the flues of a boiler.

Once set for Iso-kinetic sampling, cegrit operates automatically & continuously during all stages of combustion from starting cycle to full load.
5. RESIDUAL CARBON ANALYSER: For continuous / on-line monitoring of Carbon content in Fly ash.

The instrument provides vital Real Time information about the combustion efficiency through continuous monitoring of unburnt carbon content in fly ash. Through a constant control of this on-line measurement , the operator can quickly make the necessary adjustments to the combustion process, thus securing a more complete combustion of the coal & thereby increasing combustion efficiency . This is by far the worlds most sold instrument in this field with over 200 units world wide.
6. “HOT FOIL” L.O.I. ANALYZER : To determine L.O.I. value of fly ash. This portable instrument permits rapid determination of ash L.O.I. within few minutes eliminating long laboratory turn – around associated with conventional laboratory methodology.
7. PORTABLE EMISSION ANALYSERS : For semi continuous analysis of flue gas a wide range of both fuel cell & IR/ paramagnetic based analysers are available for accurate measurement of O2, CO, CO2, NO, NO2, NOx, SO2 & CxHy.
8. ISOKINETIC SOURCE SAMPLING SYSTEM : Complete system for particulate emission sampling, to measure the dust burden of flue gases / efficiency of ESP. For determining particulate concentration & particulate emission rates from stationary sources (as per USEPA method 5&17). the system consists of metering console, external pump units, heated filters, impingers, sampling probe etc
